I have been reading blogs for a long time, always popping back each week to have a browse at a theme or meme.
I didn't always follow until I understood the ins and outs of the blogosphere! Still not quite there though! I'm kind of a learn as you go along kind of girl!
Being partly a blog on babies and children solely because I have babies and children I have spent many a snatched hour reading other parent blogs on parenting networks. I've done as advised and have been nosing to look for more shared themes and interests and whats struck me is the number of positively positive reviews for stuff that in little old me's humble opinion you just don't bloody need!!
Let me explain...
I live in a 2 bed flat...
I have 4 children...
and am short on funds....
not only do I not have the money to splurge on these so called 'essentials' I just don't have the bloody space either!
I've been hearing about nipple creams, nursing bras, odd shaped cushions...
people have gushed about baby baths, nappy bins and top and tail bowls...
I don't know about yours but my baby doesn't even have a tail?!
So as much as I love a well designed toy or lovely well made children's clothes, or something beautiful handmade with love...
I would just like to ask...
What are the items you couldn't live without? What are the products you bought and really wish you hadn't bothered as they lay gathering dust in the corner?
Or maybe I just wish I had a nappy bin and a comfy place to rest my boobies so don't mind me ;)

Iagree babies really need very little - but there are so many things available us parents just can't help but purchase things. When mine were tiny they really only had a pushchair, a moses basket and clothes now they are bigger tho and their 'things' are taking over the house!
ReplyDeletetrue, once they can demand it's a whole new ball game! 14 year old 'needs' gadgets and expensive trainers...yeah right! ;)
DeleteHaha so true, and like you say all these things take up so much room. My biggest waste of money was a babydam so you you only use half the tub, because I hated the baby bath taking up so much room, but it didn't work right in out bath (thank goodness for eBay)! To be honest the things I couldn't live without are a decent pushchair, and wet wipes, I have barely bought anything for baby no.2! It's funny seeing all the first time parents falling for all the chunky plastic in the baby isles :)
ReplyDeleteYes! Baby wipes for everything!! Make up removal, dirty highchairs in public eating places, dusting, I even ran out of doggy poo bags and... well I'll save you the details ;)
DeleteThe thing that I have found the most useful is my fold up travel change mat. It goes eveywhere with us and means that you can change them anywhere. It came free with the change bag we brought. We would struggle without it x
ReplyDeleteTotally agree, mine was free in a baby mag when I was pregnant. Even used it to sit on when a bench was wet haha! ;)

ReplyDeleteBiggest waste of money was a swinging crib. Bought if for baby no 2 and he hated it....thought I might be able to use for baby no 3 but she was a whopper and didnt fit in the damn thing!
ReplyDeleteMost useful item...cot bed. I have two of them as two babas close in age. My little ones sleep like angels in them at night and naps, and have done since they were small babies.....this equals mummy getting sleep....this equals happy.
Haha I bought a swinging crib this time round and she barely slept in it either! Sitting in garden waiting to be turned into a planter!!
DeleteAgreed, anything with a long life that can grow as little one does has got to be a good buy! Although am slightly jealous as I'm not getting much sleep with this little lady!
There really is an awful load of crap for sale.It seems to have increased over the past few years. Definitely wasn't as bad when I was first pregnant 11 years ago.
